Kristin Nelson

I have been a public high school teacher for over 15 years, and taught flute privately

in both the US and the UK. 

My journey with flute began at age eight. I progressed through high school under the direction of the amazing Rick Cain, took private instruction with professional flautists Patty Alexander and Ruth Washington, and played with the Central District Orchestra.

In college, I studied under

world-renowned Jan Vinci, and continued to play in orchestra,

small ensembles, and

musical theater pit orchestra.

Trained in both classical and jazz, 

I can offer instruction in both!

Every flautist should have

a solid foundation that

includes Bach and Mozart,

a foray into lyrical composers like Debussy and Poulenc, challenging virtuosos from Vivaldi and Köhler, and more.

My teaching style is both 

highly-structured and friendly.

We start with warm-ups before moving into technical exercises.

The lesson then moves into repertoire, and we work on the same piece for a few weeks.

We always end with fun duets! 

The student goes home with individualized notes and

a practice plan.
